My mom and I recently had a spa day at ESPA, the signature spa in The Grand Hyatt at Bahamar. To say I love spas would be an understatement. I absolutely adore spas, I want to go to all of them, I want all of the massages, facials and body scrubs. So when I have the chance to visit one, I jump at the opportunity.
When you arrive to ESPA and check in, you are taken to the women’s area where there are changing rooms, showers, a sauna and steamroom. Lockers are provided so you can secure your valuables and clothing after you change into your robe and spa slippers. Toiletries and beauty supplies such as hair dryers, razors and shower caps are also provided for after your service, so you can freshen up. After you are done changing your spa attendant took us to the ladies relaxation room to wait until the time of our service. In here they have water, tea & fruit available for you. When it is time for your service to begin your spa therapist whisks you away from the relaxation room to your treatment room.
My mom and I both chose The Iconic Back, Face and Scalp treatment. This 90 minute service is one of their advanced body treatments and includes multiple services. The ‘Iconic’ includes a back exfoliation, a hot stone massage and a scalp massage with a clay mask. It was so much more than those three services though. The ‘Iconic’ is a combination of elements that all work together to create an experience that can only be described as magical.
Espa describes it as: “Often-imitated, never matched. The original ESPA Back, Face and Scalp massage combines exfoliation and volcanic hot stone massage to target the three principle relaxation points. Starting with a gentle body polish to smooth skin followed by a hot stone back massage to soothe muscles and remove stress, the facial and soothing scalp massage complete the treatment for the ultimate ESPA experience. “
The service starts with some basic questions about your skin type and body. Then the testing of different essential oils, masks and other products included in the service. You can completely customize your experience based on which products you choose. Once you complete this step and you are on the table, your spa therapist creates your custom aromatherapy oil that is below your face at all times. For me, this little detail took my service to another level. Scents are a huge part of relaxation for me, I am very sensitive to strong fragrances so being able to choose my oils was a nice touch. This treatment is the perfect one if you are looking for total relaxation, I was euphoric afterwards.
- Get there early: Use the steam room and sauna before your treatments. This will open up your pores!
- You can use the relaxation areas both before and after your service as long as you do not leave the spa.
- Go on a Sunday, the spa is not as crowded as it is on other days.
After your treatment is completed your spa therapist will take you to a unisex relaxation room. Here you can sip on infused waters and nibble on dried fruit. I secured a spot next to the largest window and took in the beautiful view. In this area you can also go out to the balcony and use the lounge chairs. We stayed in the unisex area for a bit and then went back to the ladies relaxation room for tea. Once we were done with our tea we finally used the sauna, showered and prepared to leave.
Overall ESPA is the full package; warm and professional staff, beautiful atmosphere, clean facilities and treatment options that I have not seen anywhere else. My mom and I will be back another time, hopefully soon. ESPA not only made us both feel wonderful while there, but gave a lasting impression that stayed with us long after we had left.
My mom and I had a lovely time, we relaxed, drank lots of tea and enjoyed the facilities. Will you be hitting the spa soon? Give ESPA a try!
