Morgans Bluff & Captain Henry Morgans Cave
Morgans Bluff & Captain Henry Morgans Cave are both located on the northeast coast at the tip of Andros island. These natural wonders are in close proximity to each other so you can make a trip out of it and see both.
How to get there:
Head north on Queen’s Highway until you come to a cross street. Turn left, then right onto Main Lumber Road. When the road splits, stay to the right. Follow the road until it ends, and look for signs leading you to the cave and bluff.

Morgans Bluff:
Morgans Bluff is a beautiful lookout point, this area is the highest point in North Andros. Morgans Bluff provides a spectacular view of the Northeast channels and the Tongue of the Ocean. The water color transitions from deep blue to a gorgeous light turquoise. Morgans Bluff is named after the famous pirate, Sir Henry Morgan who was known to use this as a lookout point and a way to wreck incoming ships. Be prepared to get wet! On a rough day, the swells will splash you. The climb up can be a bit precarious but it’s so worth the gorgeous views you are rewarded with at the top. If you have cameras or phones that are not waterproof do not take it to the top, they will get splashed and possibly ruined.

Captian Henry Morgans Cave:
Captian Henry Morgans Cave is said to be the location where he hid the spoils from his plunder. If you find some I want a cut from it. The main entrance of Captian Henry Morgans Cave is easy to miss, there is a large tree at the mouth of the cave and tree roots growing down into the main entrance. If you’re short it may be a bit of a struggle to get into the cave, use the tree roots & tree for support. There is a large area immediately below the entrance, as you go further into the cave the clearance gets smaller. It is nice and cool inside the cave. There are holes in the roof which allow streams of light through and some have tree roots growing down through them. If you’re willing to crawl you can exit the cave through a smaller entrance closest to the road.
Know before you go:
- The rocks at Morgans Bluff can be extremely slippery, I do not recommend wearing slippers or open shoes. Be careful while climbing and walking along the cliffs.
- Use the light from your phone or bring a light for exploring Captian Henry Morgans cave, it is dark and the ground is uneven. Bats also live here.
